Brriliant? Imposition of candidates led to PDP’s defeat, says Mark

Former Senate President David Mark, has called on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to “change from the old ways” of imposing candidates on the people if they want to take over government from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.
According to Paul Mumeh, his spokesperson, Mark said this on Monday during a meeting with members of the party in his constituency at Otukpo, Benue State where he “canvassed strongly for the repositioning of the party if it must return to power in the next general election.”

“We must come to terms with reality that PDP lost the last general election because of overbearing tendencies of some leaders who imposed candidates on the people.
“It is inevitable that we must change from the old ways and allow the will of the people prevail. Unfolding events clearly show that the PDP is the party for the people. But we must not take them for granted by forcing unpopular candidates on them.
“The coast is clear that the PDP has the road map for peace, unity and development of Nigeria. Nigerians now know the difference,” he said.
Mark said that the PDP has a bright chance of returning to power in 2019, but they must learn to sacrifice their individual or personal interest, work together and present popular candidates who will “steer the ship of the party ahead of the next general elections.”
Also in attendance at the meeting were former Interior Minister, Abba Moro, State Chairman of PDP, Emmanuel Agbo and Geoffrey Ejiga, a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), who all agreed with Mark, saying that; “with the continued non-performance of APC, the PDP has a clean bill of health to return to power but must avoid the pitfall of imposition of candidates for elections.”
