Daniel Onjeh says he obtained a document from INEC – Onjeh
said that he is seeking outright declaration in his favour Senator David Mark
has been dragged to the election petition tribunal by the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Daniel Onjeh.
Channels TV reports that the APC candidate in the Benue South Senatorial rerun election filed a fresh petition against Mark, who won the just concluded rerun senatorial poll. The APC candidate made the disclosure on March 13 to journalists shortly after filing his petition at a Magistrate Court. Onjeh said that he is seeking outright declaration in his favour, as documents obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated that he won in most of the polling units where at least 29,000 votes were cancelled. Adakole Elaijah, the spokesperson to the former Senate president said that his legal team is waiting to be served copies of the petition. Elaijah also swore that no effort would be spared to defend the mandate freely given to the federal lawmaker by the Idoma people. The INEC had declared Senator David Mark, who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Benue South Senatorial rerun election. Senator Mark polled a total of 84,192 votes, to beat Onjeh of the APC with 71,621 votes. The returning officer, Mr Ishaq Eneji, while declaring the result said Senator Mark met all the requirements during the conduct of the exercise, having polled the majority of the total vote cast. Daily Post reports that the Independent National Election Commission declared former Senate president, Mark winner of the February 20 Benue South Senatorial District rerun election. Announcing the result by 5.10am, the returning officer declared Okpokpowulu k’Idoma winner with 84,192 votes against Onjeh who polled a total of 71,621. Details of the results from each local government is as follows: Ado LGA APC – 6370 PDP – 6513 Agatu LGA APC – 3458 PDP – 7986 Apa LGA APC – 4943 PDP – 9191 Obi LGA APC – 8585 PDP – 7043 Ohimini LGA APC – 6192 PDP – 5923 Okpokwu LGA APC – 6830 PDP – 11935 Otukpo LGA APC – 12203 PDP – 18468 Oju LGA APC – 14159 PDP – 10289 Ogbadibo LGA APC – 8882 PDP – 6844 Difference = 12,571 votes
